It is always handy to have a few easy family recipes that you can prepare with your eyes closed. This easy meatloaf recipe is one of them. It contains a few simple ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen and pantry. It also comes together very easily without much effort.

To prepare the meatloaf, you only need about 15 minutes and then the rest of the time the meatloaf will cook to perfection in the oven. This is one of those comfort food dishes that you do not want to miss out on, especially as the weather will start to turn cold really soon.

Complementing any dish with appropriate side dishes makes the meal a success. We have a few delicious ideas for you to try out with your home-cooked meatloaf. Try it with some mashed potato or fluffy white rice. You can also bake some dinner rolls or serve it with a deeply-flavoured garlic bread.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg ground beef

  • 1 egg

  • 1 onion, chopped

  • 1 cup milk

  • 1 cup dried bread crumbs

  • salt and pepper to taste

  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar

  • 2 tablespoons prepared mustard

  • cup ketchup

Method

  • Preheat oven to 180°C.
  • In a large bowl, combine the beef, egg, onion, milk and bread or cracker crumbs.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste and place in a lightly greased 9×5-inch loaf pan, or form into a loaf and place in a lightly greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • In a separate small bowl, combine the brown sugar, mustard and ketchup. Mix well and pour over the meatloaf.
  • Bake for 1 hour
