Ever heard of cauliflower steaks? If not, this recipe is a must-try! You will be pleasantly surprised.

Wondering what you can prepare for Meatless Monday? This cauliflower steak is well seasoned, grilled cauliflower that is simply delicious. It does not compromise on flavour and is also packed with nutrition.

So, what is a cauliflower steak? It is exactly the way it sounds. It is cauliflower sliced lengthwise in 5 cm thick steaks. The steaks are then grilled to crispy perfection with lots of delicious seasoning. This recipe further includes a tasty cauliflower purée making this dish even more appetising.

Even if you are not a fan of meatless meals, this cauliflower steak will catch you by surprise. It is a very palatable way to prepare cauliflower, even for the pickiest eater.

Ingredients

  • 1 large 1 cauliflower

  • 2 2 baby onions, cut in half

  • 1 large 1 onion, chopped

  • BBQ spice

  • dried chilli flakes

  • 100 ml 100 cream

  • 25 ml 25 cooking oil

  • 5 sprigs 5 thyme

  • 2 cloves 2 garlic, chopped

Method

  • Preheat the oven to 200°C for 10 minutes.
  • Place the cauliflower stem side down. Down the center of the cauliflower cut a steak 5 cm in width.
  • Drizzle the steak with oil and season with BBQ spice on each side and set aside.
  • In a roasting pan, season the remainder of the cauliflower, chopped onion and baby onions with BBQ spice, salt garlic, thyme and oil and roast at 180°C for 25 minutes.
  • Add the contents of the roasting pan (except the baby onions) to a blender with cream and blend well.
  • In a hot pan/skillet grill the seasoned cauliflower steak for 5 minutes on each side for colour, then place into a roasting pan and bake for a further 10 minutes.
  • Remove the cauliflower steak, sprinkle chilli flakes and serve with roasted cauliflower purée.
