Ntseki takes over from Arthur Zwane with immediate effect with the now former coach assuming the role of assistant coach alongside Dillon Sheppard.

This will be Ntseki’s first head coaching job at club level in the PSL, and it is safe to say he faces an enormous task ahead.

Chiefs fans had been up in arms for Zwane to get fired, and their hopes were raised with reports that Nasreddine Nabi could be the next man in charge.

However, with the proposed deal dragging for weeks, Manqoba Mngqithi’s name was bandied about until Wednesday’s appointment of Ntseki.

Ntseki was, over the last two years, Amakhosi’s Head of Technical and Youth Development Academy but his primary focus was with the junior teams.

But he will now get to bark instructions from the bench as the main man with Zwane and Sheppard alongside him to assist.

REVISITING MOLEFI NTSEKI’S RECORD AS BAFANA BAFANA COACH

Ntseki took over from Stuart Baxter at Bafana Bafana in 2019 after serving as his assistant for a few years, and he was in charge of nine matches overall.

He came in at a time when Bafana Bafana were preparing for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Ntseki’s first match was a Nelson Mandela Cup against Senegal on 13 October, and Bafana Bafana won that encounter 2-1, and there was a glimmer of hope.

His second game was an official match; an AFCON qualifier against Ghana on 14 November 2019, and Bafana lost that match 2-0.

Ntseki’s Bafana Bafana would then redeem themselves three days later with a narrow 1-0 win over Sudan in what was the coach’s second win in three matches.

Bafana Bafana would then play two international friendlies in October 2020, but they couldn’t win any – a 1-1 against Namibia and a 2-1 loss to Zambia.

In November 2020, Bafana Bafana faced Sao Tome in back-to-back AFCON qualifying matches, and they won both games – 2-0 at home and 4-2 away from home.

In March 2021, Bafana Bafana visited Ghana where the two teams played to a 1-1 draw before Ntseki’s charges were beaten 2-0 by Sudan in their last group match.

And that proved to be Ntseki’s last match for Bafana Bafana as he was sacked for his failure to qualify for the AFCON finals in Cameroon.

Overall, Ntseki coached NINE matches for Bafana Bafana, won FOUR, drew TWO and lost THREE. His team scored 12 goals and conceded 11.
