Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly not willing to give up on signing Bongani Zungu who is also wanted by former club Mamelodi Sundowns.

According to SABC Sport, Zungu remains top of Amakhosi’s priority list for the upcoming season although it might not be easy to bring him in.

In his recent interview on Metro FM, Zungu confirmed receiving a call from Sundowns whom he left for Portugal in 2016, and there was no mention of Chiefs.

Nonetheless, the publication reports that Chiefs are planning to step up their pursuit for Zungu, meaning this could be a two-team race for his signature.

Zungu is currently a free agent following his departure from France-based outfit Amiens SC, and he was never going to be short of options.

According to SABC Sport, Chiefs have had talks with Zungu’s agent since January 2022 as they had hoped to sign him on a pre-contract.

However, to date, nothing has materialised, and Zungu is reported to still be hopeful of securing a move abroad where he feels he can play for a few more years before returning to the PSL.

Chiefs, on the other hand, want to make Zungu their marquee signing in a team expected to have more new faces in an attempt to help Arthur Zwane succeed as their coach.

Chiefs have, so far, signed Zitha Kwinika and Ashley Du Preez from Stellenbosch FC while Siyethemba Sithebe is expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks.
