Ngoma was an obvious link for Chiefs, having previously been of interest to the club. Chiefs sign Castillo

“Kaizer Chiefs have agreed personal terms with Venezuela international midfielder Edson Castillo, iDiski Times understands. Castillo emerged as a transfer target for Chiefs in January after the exit of Njabulo Blom to Major League Soccer outfit St Louis City SC. However, the club opted against signing the 29-year-old who had become a free agent after Caracas and he returned to his former club Monagas on a short-term deal. But this publication understands talks were reopened after the end of the 2022/23 season and the two parties have come to an agreement on personal terms ahead of his expected arrival after the end of the Copa Libertadores group stage campaign.” Wrote the above mentioned website.

This is an interesting move for Chiefs, who seem to be following the sometimes successful route taken by their rivals Mamelodi Sundowns of going to South America to look for talent. The last time Chiefs opted to eventually sign a player they initially turned down the opportunity to sign was Caleb Bimenyimana, their fans will be hoping Castillo’s career at the club doesn’t end up like that.
