Ex-Chiefs star Ngezana aims for longevity in European top flight

Former Kaizer Chiefs star Siyabonga Ngezana aims for longevity as he starts his career in a European league with FCSB.

Former Kaizer Chiefs and new FCSB star defender Siyabonga Ngezana has outlined his plans as he aims for longevity in a European league.

Ngezana says his ambition is to remain abroad for a long time and that leaving Chiefs to join FCSB in Romania will open doors for his career.

The towering defender, Ngezana was officially unveiled by the Romanian giants over the weekend as he joined the club in the middle of June.

EX-CHIEFS STAR NGEZANA REVEALS FUTURE PLANS IN EUROPE

The former Amakhosi defender, Ngezana said he was also surprised by his recent move and believes the move will also help get more national call-ups to the Bafana Bafana side.

While South African players tend to stay one or two seasons overseas and return to the DStv Premiership, Ngezana explained that he wants to change all of that.

As also published by The South African, Chiefs announced the 25-year-old Ngezana’s move to the club formerly known as Steaua Bucharesti for a reported staggering R12m fee two weeks ago.

As he also joined his new teammates for pre-season in the Netherlands, Ngezana is set to feature for FCSB as they will compete in the UEFA Conference League next season.

“This is a massive opportunity for me to grow. This move will certainly open many doors for me. I will make sure I stay longer abroad,” Ngezana told Sowetan.

“I want to use this move as a stepping stone to even better opportunities. I also have Bafana in my mind, I want to break into the team.

“When you are playing in Europe, you are surrounded by opportunities, so my aim is to always be willing to learn because you’ll never know who’s watching.” 

NGEZANA OFFICIALLY UNVEILED BY FCSB IN ROMANIA

The South African reported that the former Amakhosi development player was officially unveiled by FCSB as he manage to jet out of the country.

His departure was delayed by paperwork-related issues as media reports suggested just days after he was signed by the European outfit.

In addition, Ngezana’s new club also confirmed that the lanky Bafana international is set to wear the number 30 jersey number he used to don at Chiefs.

Ngezana graduated to the senior side in 2016 after working with former coach Arthur Zwane on the youth team and nearly spent seven years at Naturena.
