The decision to sell tickets for Bafana Bafana’s Afcon qualifier against Morocco at R20 is paying off as more than 20 000 tickets were sold by Tuesday.

The special, which saw tickets for the game being sold at R20, was open from June 1-8.

The price of the tickets has since reverted to the original R50 meaning those who still wish to see the national team in action, can do so by paying R30 more than they would have earlier this month.

Stadium Management South Africa CEO Bertie Grobbelaar said there were hoping to sell at least 50 000 tickets by Saturday before kick-off.

Bafana tickets could reach 50 000

“This morning (Tuesday) at 10’oclock the actual sales were 20,300… then there are 20,000 complementary ones that have been taken up. Hospitality and suits are at 567 and that brings the total to at least 40,000. It’s not too bad. We hope for a festival. With the complimentary, we think by Saturday we would have sold 50,000 already,” Grobbelaar was quoted by Sowetan.

Although the tickets are not seling like hotcakes, the crowd is expected to at least fill half of the calabash which would delight Hugo Broos and his troops.

The South Africans face the North Africans at FNB Stadium, in Johannesburg, with both teams having already qualified for the continental tournament to be held in Côte d’Ivoire on 13 January – 11 February 2024.
