Overthinking is a habit that can often be the cause of much stress and anxiety. It can actually paralyse your decision-making abilities.

UNIVERSAL PROBLEM

It is not uncommon to think too much about certain things but when overthinking takes over, one can be looking for problems.

We all might overthink at times because it is normal to fear the consequences of the decisions we make.

However, when we overthink, we impact our own happiness and inner peace.

TIPS TO HELP OVERTHINKING:

If you need to overcome an overthinking habit, try these steps.

SET TIME LIMITS

Give yourself specific amounts of time to consider problems and arrive at decisions.

Once your allotted time is up, take action, even if the decision isn’t exactly the right one. Setting deadlines can prevent you from ruminating on the same thoughts.

BE SOLUTION-DRIVEN

Shift your focus from dwelling on problems to actively seeking solutions.

Instead of repeatedly going over the same concerns, direct your energy into brainstorming ideas and planning the steps needed to address the issue.

CHALLENGING NEGATIVITY

If you find yourself in a cycle of negative or self-critical thinking, challenge these thoughts with evidence that contradicts them.

Be bold but be gentle on yourself. This can help break the cycle of overthinking.

Practicing mindfulness techniques can help you to stay in the present and avoid getting lost in a cycle of overthinking.

INTERESTS AND HOBBIES

To prevent yourself from being trapped in the same headspace all the time, try to engage in other activities that occupy your mind and require your attention.

Pursue hobbies, do exercise or read a book. These diversions can redirect your focus away from overthinking.
