This is a totally old school meatball recipe. The meatballs are completely tender and juicy and baked in a banana curry sauce. This recipe is so good you will want more than just a few servings.

Serve with rice and vegetables of your choice.

Soft and juicy meatballs baked in a banana curry sauce.

Ingredients – MEATBALLS

  • 1 kg lean mince meat

  • 10 ml salt

  • 3 ml white pepper

  • 15 ml barbecue sauce of your choice

  • 10 ml apricot jam

  • 5 ml mixed herbs

  • 1 egg

  • METHOD – BANANA CURRY SAUCE
  • 2 large sliced onions

  • 10 ml curry powder

  • 2 pulped bananas ( mush with a fork)

  • 5 ml barbecue spice

  • 5 ml vinegar

  • 5 ml apricot jam

  • 5 ml brown sugar

  • 100 ml hot water

Method – MEATBALLS

  • In a bowl, mix all the ingredients together. Using a medium size (golf ball size) ice cream scoop, make perfect size meatballs. Place them 1cm apart on a greased baking tray.
  • METHOD – CURRY SAUCE
  • Preheat oven to 160°C.
  • In a frying pan, heat butter on a low heat. Add the onion. Cook it slowly. Add the sugar. Add the bananas. Add the rest of the ingredients, and bring to a boil.
  • Place the meatballs in the pre-heated oven for 20 minutes. Remove from the oven and pour the curry sauce over. Bake for another 30 minutes uncovered, at 140°C.
