Klawer: DNA confirms remains belong to Jerobejin and another boy, 11, reported missing

Jerobejin van Wyk’s family received confirmation that the remains found in Klawer belong to the 13-year-old, on Wednesday. Anelisa Sigwebedlana’s mother reported him missing on the same day.

DNA analysis has confirmed that the human remains found on the property of murder-accused Daniel Smit belong to Jerobejin van Wyk from Klawer in the Western Cape. Meanwhile, another boy from the area, Anelisa Lathitha Sigwebedlana, was reported missing on Wednesday, 16 February.

REMAINS BELONG TO VAN WYK

According to reports, Jerobeijin’s family received confirmation, on Wednesday, that the remains found in Smit’s sewer pipes belong to the 13-year-old who disappeared about two weeks ago.

Smit allegedly spotted the deceased and his friend picking mangoes from a tree and chased after them. He reportedly bumped Jerobejin over before putting his body in the back of his bakkie. The friend managed to escape by hiding in a bin.

Santie Human, the accused’s lawyer, said Smit won’t apply for bail last week. In a statement, Smit alluded that he was influenced to commit the alleged murder by his past experiences with the occult.

Smit is charged with murder, kidnapping, defeating the ends of justice and assault GBH.

ANOTHER KLAWER BOY MISSING

UPDATE:

“The missing11 year old  Anelisa Lathitha Sigwebedlana was found safe and unharmed. He was reunited with his family. We want to thank everyone involved, who helped looking for him,” said van Wyk in a statement at 20:22 on Wednesday night.


South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson in the Western Cape Captain FC van Wyk said the mother, Zanele Sigwebedlana, of an 11-year-old boy reported her son missing on Wednesday.

Anelisa was last seen on 15 February at approximately 16:00 by his aunt at his home in the Riemvasmaak informal settlement in Klawer.

He was wearing a yellow long-sleeved t-shirt and a pair of grey shorts.

“A Joint Operations Centre (JOC) was established to coordinate the search,” said van Wyk.

The Vredendal Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) is in charge of the investigation.
