Chiefs and Pirates will go head to head in a highly-anticipated Nedbank Cup semi-final, with Amakhosi on the verge of a stunning achievement.

Kaizer Chiefs will be facing Orlando Pirates in the 2023 Nedbank Cup semi-final this Saturday, having previously battled their way past Royal AM in the tournament’s quarter final last month.

Meanwhile, Pirates advanced after holding their nerve in a penalty shootout as they beat Dondol Stars to book a spot in the next round. A tensely-contested quarter-final clash had ended deadlocked at 1-1 with no separating the two sides after 120 minutes of play, but the Buccaneers ultimately did just enough from the penalty spot.
It’s set up another mouth-watering Soweto derby, and it shouldn’t be forgotten that as recently as February, the 2022/23 Kaizer Chiefs vintage already wrote themselves into Amakhosi folklore at FNB stadium by earning the club its fifth straight victory over perennial rivals, Orlando Pirates, a feat never before achieved in 53 years of illustrious history.

On that occasion, a calamitous 89th minute own goal from Olisah Ndah settled a tetchy encounter to give the large contingent of Amakhosi fans among the 78000 spectators another dose of bragging rights over their Buccaneer-loving counterparts.
It would be a stunning achievement if Arthur Zwane’s team could now secure a sixth successive Soweto derby win in the Nedbank Cup, although there is no doubt that Pirates will be hunting redemption.
As it is, Chiefs are coming into this clash of the disappointing defeat to Swallows on Sunday, while Pirates are on a hot streak after claiming six successive league wins.
