Former Bafana Bafana forward Bernard Parker has recalled what happened in the dressing room after Kaizer Chiefs lost the 2019/20 DStv Premiership.

The 36-year-old Parker revealed how the mood was and how everyone reacted after his former club spectacularly bottled the league title.

Chiefs led the 2019/20 Premier Soccer League season for more than 12 months only to slip up on the final day which allowed Pitso Mosimane’s Mamelodi Sundowns to steal the title in the last 20 minutes.

Parker still remembers how Chiefs bottled the league

Amakhosi needed to beat Baroka in their last game to wrap up the league and were in pole position to do so when Khama Billiat scored first in the first half. Baroka though, managed to equalise and spoil Chiefs’ party.

Speaking to the Nkululeko n Cultr podcast, Parker said he remembered the day very well.

“I could not see what the dressing room looked like. My head was in my hands looking down into the ground. It was so quiet where you could even hear a pin drop,” he said.

“No one could speak because usually after the game we would pray but we stood so long in that change room, guys did not want to go shower. No one wanted to do anything, we were all numb. It felt like a sword that went through the heart,” Parker said.

Parker left Chiefs last year and although his love for the club is still there, he tipped Sundowns to win the 2023/24 DStv Premiership title. The striker currently plays for TS Galaxy and is still going strong after nearly 20 years of playing at the highest level.
