Manqoba Mngqithi to Kaizer Chiefs is what some Amakhosi supporters have been praying for. For now, Mamelodi Sundowns are still in the driving seat.

MANQOBA MNGQITHI TO MEET MAMELODI SUNDOWNS

Kaizer Chiefs supporters will find some needed clarity from this and it has a timeline. Sundowns’ assistant coach Mngqithi is facing the end of his contract with the DStv Premiership and African Football League champions on 30 June, his agent Mike Makaab confirmed. Additionally, Makaab, revealed that he hopes Sundowns will offer a renewal when the parties meet in the next fortnight.

“Manqoba Mngqithi’s contract is coming to an end in June with Mamelodi Sundowns but we hope his contract will be renewed,” the agent Makaab told FARPost.

“As it stands now, we are hoping that in the next two weeks, we’ll know what the future holds for Mngqithi because we’re going to have a meeting with Sundowns.

“We hope he will remain at Sundowns. His commitment is with the current club, and that’s going to be our primary focus,” Makaab concluded on the reported Kaizer Chiefs target.

KAIZER CHIEFS TO RELEASE JASOND GONZALEZ

In other Amakhosi news, Jasond Gonzalez is leaving Naturena.

There was much excitement when the 24-year-old Colombian arrived at Amakhosi in August last year. The agreement was a season-long loan contract. With 12 scattered appearances, mostly as a substitute, zero goals and an option to offer a new contract, Kaizer Chiefs have decided they won’t renew Gonzalez’s deal.

“This publication has learnt, that the physical striker will return to Bolivian club Real Santa Cruz at the end of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season,” iDiskiTimes Lorenz Kohler reported.

“His loan deal, which had an option to make the deal permanent for $180,000 (R3.4 million) will not be pursued further after failing to score in his 12 games for Amakhosi,” the report added.

Existing Kaizer Chiefs striker options:

  • Ranga Chivaviro (31): Two goals and one assist in 19 games
  • Wandile Duba (19): One goal in seven appearances.

Note: Ashley du Preez and Christian Saile arrived as strikers but have been playing on the right or left flanks.

GIVEN MSIMANGO THE NEWEST CAPTAIN

In other developments at Kaizer Chiefs, Given Msimango was wearing the captain’s armband last Sunday against Richards Bay FC – rather than Itumeleng Khune, Keagan Dolly or Yusuf Maart.

“When you do the analysis of the team, the entire team, it’s still very young,” the Kaizer Chiefs boss said as per FARPost.

“I think it’s Itu who has been here for more than 20 years, the other guys are all very young in the team. It’s [Msimango] who they pick as the captain if this one is out, that one is out, Keagan is out injured, Yusuf got injured as well.

“Itu has been fighting to get fit and match fit again to play. So, Given is the next best captain because I do believe that in any club you have to have 11 captains on the field and not one.

“Captain is there to toss the coin and make sure that you kick the ball.

“Other than that, I believe that you have to have 11 captains on the field. So, there’s no problem with that for me,” the Kaizer Chiefs tactician concluded.
