How many South Africans from the PSL have moved to the MLS? The most notable recent example is former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Njabulo Blom, but two more are soon to follow…

The Minnesota United forward has bagged six goals in 21 MLS appearances this term, and the 23-year-old former Maritzburg star is a key player for the team under coach Adrian Heath. This is good news for Bafana Bafana and for him personally.

Kaizer Chiefs saw a talented academy star leave the club earlier this year, and he’s thriving for St Louis City. In their maiden campaign and under South African manager Bradley Carnell, they sit atop the Western Conference standings. Blom was initially in and out of the side, but now he’s started their last six matches. His influence is growing at the base of their midfield.

The 25-year-old Benoni-born star, known as “Tsiki”, is at Dallas FC and excelling in a wide midfield role.

19-year-old Stellenbosch defender Olwethu Makhanya is on the brink of joining Philadelphia Union. Meanwhile, 22-year-old Sundowns and Bafana striker Cassius Mailula will be a Toronto FC player if and when the clubs agree a fee for the talented marksman. It’s believed that fee could be in the region of R30 million.
