Orlando Pirates have announced six of their nine new signings to the public so far, but it seems like Bafana Bafana international Bathusi Aubaas will not join the list.

It is believed that Pirates were hot on the heels of Aubaas, even going as far as entering negotiations with TS Galaxy for his services.

Pirates were already pursuing the services of Aubaas before the end of the previous season, with the interest intensifying after the 2022/23 campaign. The player’s star then rose even further when he made his Bafana Bafana debut and to aplomb against a quality Moroccan outfit, bossing the midfield together with Mamelodi SundownsTeboho Mokoena. Then controversy would strike between SAFA and Galaxy, innocently involving the Buccaneers.

SAFA then accidentally wrote down Aubaas’ club as Pirates instead of Galaxy in the match day program of that 2023 AFCON qualifier 2-1 victory over the Moroccans. That clearly incensed the chairman of the club who took to his official Twitter account to convey his disappointment. That, unfortunately for the ‘Happy People’ might be the only time they see the midfield anchorman associated with their club, at least for the time being. Soccer-Laduma reports that the main issue is the difference in valuation between the two clubs.

Galaxy out pricing Aubaas out of Pirates move?

“Having recently sold Given Msimango to Kaizer Chiefs for a transfer fee believed to be in the region of R6 million, the Rockets, where said to be looking for a similar amount for the 28-year-old. However, Bucs are believed to have been willing to pay less than that for the Bafana Bafana international.” Wrote the publication.

“The move to Pirates for Bathusi Aubaas is now highly unlikely. There was interest, but money seems to be an issue as Galaxy are valuing the player highly and pricing him high. He is valued in the same way as Msimango who has signed for Chiefs.” Said the source.

As it stands, Aubaas is set to enter the new season as a Galaxy player still, but even if that changes, chances are he won’t be moving to Pirates.
