Kaizer Chiefs are believed to have sealed the deal to bring Pule Mmodi to Naturena, beating arch rivals Orlando Pirates in the process.

Mmodi’s saga has been a protracted one, with both Chiefs and Pirates exchanging the lead in the race for his signature, it now appears Amakhosi have finally won.

The chase for the signing of Mmodi has been an interesting one before and during the current season. Now with the latest developments, it looks as if it will get even hotter a the end of the season. It was initially Chiefs who were thought to be leading the pursuit ahead of the campaign, with Amakhosi reportedly lining him up on a free. Those plans then hit a snag when Golden Arrows decided to trigger their one-year option on the player’s contract.

That then ensured that any party interested in Mmodi would have to folk out a transfer fee, and that seemed to discourage Chiefs. As the season went by, strong rumours of Pirates coming in to hijack that move then started to surface. According to widespread reports yesterday, the player who will soon part ways with Arrows as a free agent, is set to sign for the Glamour Boys when his deal with the Durban side expires at the end of June.

Now according to goal.com SA writer Austin Ditlhobolo Mmodi made a drastic decision in order to fulfil his dream of signing for Chiefs.

“I’m told Pule Mmodi ditched his agent and he’s now looking to seal his deal with Kaizer Chiefs without the man who has managed him since his days with Free State Stars.” He wrote on his Facebook page.

Chiefs might have to wait until the 1st of July to unveil their new players, as a part from Given Msimango and Mduduzi Mdantsane, the other three players Amakhosi are believed to have signed, will still be contracted to their former teams until the June 30.
