Jali was exiled from the Sundowns squad due to reports of the midfielder attending training still under the influence of alcohol. Before that incident, it was thought that his former club Pirates were interested in his services, while their arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs were even strongly rumoured to be readying a January offer to try and tempt the veteran to jump ship ahead of the second half of the current season. For Chiefs, however, their approach reportedly came to a halt after the drinking incident, with club sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr coming out publicly to say the club were never keen on the player. On the Pirates side, their interest came before they signed another veteran midfielder in Makhehlene Makhaula. Since then, it has appeared that there have been very little if any links between the two parties.  In fact It has since been the likes of SuperSport United, Stellenbosch FC, Cape Town City FC and AmaZulu who have been credited with an interest in Jali’s services since.

Most recently, however a strong link to Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca had emerged, with the club thought to already be in talks with Jali’s people over a possible deal. It then emerged that Jali had rejected the opportunity to sign for the Tunisian giants, saying he has no intention of leaving the country. That seemed to spark even more rumours surrounding a move back to Pirates.

Just last week, it was reported by this website that Pirates were preparing the final details of an offer to Jali, which would offer their former player a one-year deal with an option to extend for another year. These rumours seemed to suggest that it was only a matter of time before the player formalises his reunion with the Buccaneers faithful. However, according to his agent, that might not happen at all.

Jali to reject Pirates for lucrative overseas offers?

“Don’t rule out an overseas move. Don’t rule out a move to the Middle East or China,” said agent Mike Makaab to Gagasi FM, on the potentially very lucrative options that could be on the table for Jali amid links to Pirates.

This is now sure cause for Pirates fans to be concerned, as it was initially thought that a move beyond the borders of South Africa was ruled out by Jali and his camp, with a strong preference to remain in the country. But with Makaab previously stating that the former Bafana Bafana international wants to play for just two-more seasons before retiring, one last big money contract in China or the Middle East may have proven too tempting to turn down.
