Orlando Pirates return to action for the first time in 2022 when they host rivals AmaZulu in a Nedbank Cup clash this afternoon.
The Buccaneers face a tricky test in the form of Benni McCarthy’s AmaZulu with both sides enduring a rather inconsistent first half of the season.
It will be the second match in as many games between the two with Orlando Pirates walking away with a 2-1 victory against AmaZulu during the last match of 2021.
A Kwame Peprah brace was enough to see the Buccaneers home against Benni McCarthy’s side who managed to score once on the day through Amigo Memela.

Benni McCarthy ready to FIGHT!
“Myself and my team are born competitors. With every game that we play, we don’t take anything granted, we want to win. When I played for Pirates, I played with everything, my heart and soul,” the former Orlando Pirates star said ahead of the clash.
“Now I am at AmaZulu, or any team that I coach, I give the same commitment. Unfortunately, for the team that I played for, I want to do it even more. When I meet Pirates, I want to win wholeheartedly. That’s why there’s more passion involved.
“And sometimes, the passion turns into a fight. When you win, they want to fight. And that’s where we don’t sit-back, we accept the invitation. But it’s all love after the game. we have a lot of respect for each other, the coach and the club.
“I don’t know if it’s written in the sky that I’m meant to play against DStv Premiership teams throughout my career while I coach in the PSL. However, we will deal with it. But it couldn’t come any tougher than Orlando Pirates.”
