Sundowns restructure development, Notoane gets new role

Mamelodi Sundowns have restructured their development academy with a former South Africa U23 team coach getting a new role within the club.

In a statement released, Sundowns confirmed David Notoane‘s appointment as the new Head of Transition. He will oversee the transition of players across different age groups.

Also confirmed is the appointment of former All Stars coach Sinethemba Badela, who is now the Sundowns Diski Challenge team head coach.

Badela will be assisted by club legend Michael Manzini and new recruit Phuphu Mohlaba who joins Sundowns from TS Galaxy.

Another club legend in Surprise Moriri has been tasked with coaching the Sundowns U19 in an effort to teach the youngers the club’s culture before they get to a higher level.

SUNDOWNS RING CHANGES IN THE DEVELOPMENT – STATEMENT

In an effort to produce more quality footballers that transition from the Academy to the Senior Team, Mamelodi Sundowns has made an imperative changes and restructured the Development Academy which will see more youngsters and teenagers playing in the Diski Team.

The Diski Team players are now training at Chloorkop and will receive all necessary support as the club’s most important transition team between the first team and the academy.

With an average of 19 year olds from the previous average of 21, The Diski Team, which played its first match in the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) on Saturday against the defending champions, SuperSport, is Coached by Sinethemba Badela.

Coach Themba, who is renowned for his tactical acumen and attractive style of play, is assisted by Michael Manzini who was the Coach of the U/19 and won the Engen Tournament. In the finals of the tournament, the opposition was Coached by Phuphu Mohlaba and he joins the Diski Team as an assistant Coach, bringing experience of coaching the youth and analysis. Tshepo Makgata, remains as the Goalkeeper Coach of the team.

Tasked with producing the next crop of talent from the U/19 Team to Diski Team, Coach Surprise Moriri will play a key role in managing and monitoring the players from U/19 that can be promoted to the Diski Team.

Coach David Notoane is now the Head of Transition and will oversee the transition of players in the different Academy structures, including Diski and U/19.

His role includes the recommendation and monitoring of pipe line players between the different structures. In an effort to not only produce talented players, the team will ensure that the players get the necessary support for their schooling and tutoring needs.

Coach David, with the help of everyone, will link up with the different departments including nutrition and physical training of the players.

The Mamelodi Sundowns Academy enters an exciting period and the elite team, Diski, has recruited a new team that is in an integration phase.
