Erasmus dispels talk of animosity towards Sundowns

Orlando Pirates striker Kermit Erasmus dispels the talk that he has emotions and animosity towards Mamelodi Sundowns.

Erasmus is expected to spearhead Pirates’ attack when they meet Sundowns in the MTN8 final at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

The Gqeberha-born striker, Erasmus spent two seasons at Chloorkop with Sundowns before making his return to Pirates.

While he says he is still friends with Sundowns players, Erasmus made it clear that there are no friends on a football pitch.

ERASMUS DISPELS ANIMOSITY TOWARDS SUNDOWNS

Known for scoring against Sundowns while on the books of Cape Town City and Pirates, he is expected to show his worth at the sold-out affair.

Erasmus was on the scoresheet for Pirates in the MTN8 semi-final last season as they defeated Sundowns.

“There are no emotions playing against my former team, I’ve was only there for two seasons. I have no animosity with anyone at the club, I’m good with the players and still friends with them,” said Erasmus.

“It’s a game that both teams want to win, so, there are no friends on the field during the 90 minutes. We are there to work and we are there to grind out a result and be victorious.”

ERASMUS REFLECTS ON LOSS TO SUNDOWNS IN THE LEAGUE

Under coach Jose Riveiro, Pirates claimed a double last term but they are yet to replicate that form and hunger this season.

Erasmus also looked back at their most recent match against Sundowns where they lost 1-0 at Orlando Stadium in the DStv Premiership.

“The last game we played well, yes we didn’t convert the chances we created, but it’s a step in the right direction. If you take the positives from the game I think we can build on that,” he added.
