Itumeleng Khune is still suspended, Kaizer Chiefs confirm

“The suspension may be expiring, but there are still processes to be followed,” Chiefs manager Bobby Motaung on Khune’s suspension.

Kaizer Chiefs long-serving goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune still going through the suspension process, according to the club football manager Bobby Motaung.

The 36-year-old was suspended after he reportedly arrived for training while under the influence of alcohol in November.

With contract expected to expire end of June, many are convinced that the star keeper might have played his last game for Chiefs.

Speaking to Sowetan, Amakhosi boss Bobby Motaung confirmed that the process was still ongoing.

“I can’t share the time frame but he’s still in the process of suspension. Remember, he was suspended by the DC [disciplinary committee], so there’s a process and he’s following that process,” Motaung told Sowetan on Wednesday. 

“The suspension may be expiring, but there are still processes to be followed.”

Chiefs stripped Khune of his captaincy in early December and was advised to go to rehabilitation.

The ex-Bafana Bafana captain appeared to be on track to recovery and even featured for the PSL All Stars during their Carling Black Label Cup against Stellenbosch in January.

It remains to be seen if Khune would be welcomed back into the team.
