“I wasn’t here to prove any point” Khune after MOTM performance

Itumeleng Khune made several top saves to help PSL All-Stars defeat Carling Knockout champions Stellenbosch FC 2-1.

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune made his return to the field and was named Man of the Match following his performance in the Carling Cup against Stellenbosch FC on Saturday.

The ex-Bafana man is currently suspended by Chiefs however, was voted by fans to participate in the Carling Cup for the  PSL All Stars.

The All Star team defeated Carling Knockout champions Stellenbosch FC 2-1 at Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Khune, who captain the team, told SABC Sport that he was just happy to play and represent everyone.

“I wasn’t here to prove any point to anybody,” Khune told SABC.

“I was here to honour the game that I was voted for to come and represent everyone that has voted for me.

“So I’m happy that I came with a positive mindset, with a winning mentality. All the players have played their part today, he said.

Khune makes top saves to help All Stars beat Stellies

Khune’s Chiefs teammate Ashley du Preez scored All Stars’ second goal but it was the skipper’s saves that ensured the win for Jose Riveiro’s men.

“We only had two days to prepare for this game and obviously facing the current champions of Black Label 2023, it wasn’t going to be easy, because people were doubting that we were going to match them, because they are a team that’s been assembled a couple of years ago, we were only chosen a couple of weeks ago,” Khune said as per iDiski TV.

“We showed the fans and the people that have voted why they voted for us. We had to represent them with pride and dignity and I’m happy that everyone who came out here witnessed the star players they voted for and they managed to put a smile on their faces.”
