Vilakazi is a name the Chiefs faithful have been calling for, for a while now as they continue to hope to see him making his senior debut for the club.

Vilakazi still awaits Chiefs debut

At times it has seemed as if the prospects of that happening are edging closer and closer as Vilakazi was first pictured training with the Chiefs first team during pre-season. That sparked a lot of excitement from the club’s fan base, as they thought the player would finally get his opportunity in the current season. On top of that, he was again! Pictured in training with the first team, raising the hopes that he could feature in their last home game of 2023 against Richards Bay FC

That did not happen for Vilakazi, however, with the 17-year-old still awaiting his big break at Chiefs, but the signs are there to suggest that he cannot be too far off that now. Even though he and the Amakhosi faithful still wait for that moment, they will at least finally get their wish, which is to at least see what the playmaker can offer, when playing against senior opposition at a professional level.

Fans set to see how ready he is for senior football?

Of course, Vilakazi is no stranger to playing against older opposition having rose to national stardom after his eye catching performances during the 2021 Philly’s Games. But now a different task awaits him, as he plays against a very good Stellenbosch side, who are fresh from winning their first piece of silverware. They are also a very well structured side who masterminded a 3-2 come back victory against Chiefs’ arch-rivals Orlando Pirates.

Since his days in the Philly’s Games, Vilakazi has had two years of structured coaching at Chiefs reserve level, where he has built certain aspects of his game and has undergone natural development physically. He is still far from the finished product of course, but the game against Stellenbosch will be the perfect game to show the Amakhosi fans just how much progress he has made since, and how ready he is for first team football.
