ICYMI: Bafana Bafana legend Benni McCarthy’s massive achievements

Shandre Campbell, to follow SuperSport talents to Sundowns?

18-year-old winger Shandre Campbell has produced a handful of eye-catching displays this season. He replaced Thapelo Maseko in the attack for Matsatsantsa after Maseko’s big-money move to Sundowns. Gavin Hunt expects Campbell to leave at some stage but has suggested that the club has plans to cope with his departure.

“Well Campbell is going to be bought now again, isn’t it? So I have to have another one, it will be three [left wingers] in three years,” he said when asked about the emerging talent in the DDC squad.

“So yes it’s a problem. I don’t know, I don’t want to get into this conversation. We have to try and look at our conveyor belt all the time because of our situation because players are going to move all the time.

“It’s very frustrating as a coach because you can never build anything so it’s very difficult but that’s the business we in and that’s what it is – but I agree with you, he’s a big talent and he’s the next one [into the first-team].

“There’s a few more coming, we have to [promote more youngsters into the senior team].”

Kaizer Chiefs are interested too

Campbell is primarily a left-winger but can operate on the other flank or as a second striker. Born in July 2005, he’s still just 18 and one for the future, but the present looks quite promising too. That performance against Pirates means he’s slowly becoming one of the hottest properties in the South African Premier Division. Former Bucs star Benedict Vilakazi has urged Kaizer Chiefs to make a move for Campbell before champions Sundowns swoop in for the talented teen. Will the Glamour Boys heed his advice?

Campbell has scored two goals and supplied four assists in 16 games across all competitions this term.
