There has just been a major update on the future of Manchester United’s Benni McCarthy, amid Kaizer Chiefs talks.

McCarthy’s future at Manchester United is still under a cloud of uncertainty, which has intensified Chiefs speculation.

At the end of last month, McCarthy went to South African radio and spoke glowing about Chiefs. Amakhosi are admittedly the ex-striker’s boyhood club and even though he is an Orlando Pirates legend. He has never hid that. He was then asked about the head coach vacancy at the club, and stated he could never refuse them. This seemed to be because he his deal at Manchester United was coming to an end.

Besides Chiefs, it was also reported that McCarthy was the subject of some possible interest in the USA. This publication reported earlier on Wednesday that options might soon open up for Bafana Bafana’s all time top goal scorer. This in Major League Soccer.

But now, according to the latest information from the U.K, McCarthy might not need either of Chiefs or the MLS. This after latest reports claim United manager Erik ten Hag has asked the club to offer him a new contract. This comes after the Dutchman, himself, got the vote of confidence from the new INEOS ownership structure. As he maps out his own long-term future at the club, he looks keen to keep his current coaching staff.

Now set to stay at Manchester United?

“Erik ten Hag has reportedly requested that his coach Benni McCarthy is offered a new contract, after the Dutchman’s future was resolved late on Tuesday evening. Ten Hag will remain in charge at Old Trafford despite speculation that new decision-makers INEOS were considering swinging the axe. The Times claim that Ten Hag wants United to hand McCarthy a contract extension as a reward for his efforts over the past two years, with his current deal up at the end of June. The former Blackburn and West Ham striker’s own future had been in doubt, with INEOS weighing up whether to sack Ten Hag and replace him with candidates involving Thomas Tuchel and Mauricio Pochettino, who would likely have made sweeping changes to the existing staff.” The Express wrote citing The Times UK.

With Chiefs set to appoint Nasreddine Nabi, McCarthy may have been thrown a lifeline to further enhance his reputation at Manchester United.
