The tussle for positions in mid-table is tight in the PSL, so Highlands Park and Golden Arrows both have plenty to gain from their clash in Tembisa on Saturday.

First and foremost, both sides will be looking to regain their form heading into the mid-season break.

Highlands Park have gone seven games without a win in all competitions after a tremendous start to the season saw them reach the MTN8 final. Golden Arrows sit fifth in the league, but even Abafana Bes’thende have lost three of their last four fixtures in all competitions.

“I thought it was a good match for us, especially from a playing performance. Could it have been 1-1? Yes, I don’t like commenting about stuff that is slightly beyond the areas we manage,” Arrows coach Steve Komphela told SuperSport following his team’s 1-0 home defeat to Bidvest Wits in a scrappy game marred by controversial officiating.

“I thought they applied themselves very well. It’s just a pity that we missed a penalty. Congratulations to Bidvest [Wits].”

Nevertheless, Arrows are undoubtedly in a better place than when Komphela took charge a year ago. It is important that Abafana Bes’thende end 2019 off on a high note.

Kick-off time and prediction

Kick-off time: Saturday 21 December at 15:30

Prediction: When analysing Golden Arrows’ recent slump, one must bear in mind that their last four games have included fixtures against Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits.

They have, however, been in tremendous form otherwise. Steve Komphela’s side are backed to end off 2019 with a win against a struggling Highlands Park.
