AmaZulu to pounce on ex-Chiefs & Sundowns defender?

After leaving Azerbaijan, AmaZulu are now reportedly ready to pounce on ex-Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns defender Siyanda Xulu.

AmaZulu are reportedly set to pounce on ex-Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns defender Siyanda Xulu who is a free agent.

The former Chiefs and Sundowns defender is now close to securing a move to the Durban-based AmaZulu after leaving Azerbaijan side Toran Tovuz, local reports suggest.

According to the SABC, the former Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns central defender, Xulu could be unveiled by Usuthu this week.

AMAZULU TO POUNCE ON EX-SUNDOWNS DEFENDER

The public broadcaster has it that the Bafana Bafana defender, Xulu is searching for a new club and he is close to concluding a deal with the ambitious AmaZulu.

“AmaZulu are set to conclude yet another signing this week with Bafana Bafana defender Siyanda Xulu arriving at the club, SABC Sport understands,” reports the broadcaster.

“Usuthu are adding the experienced centre back to their squad on the back of beating Chiefs and SuperSport to acquiring the services of young midfielder Rowan Human.”

While coach Gavin Hunt was also keen on landing the experienced defender who also played for Maritzburg United, SuperSport United CEO Stan Matthews clarified their stance.

“We haven’t had a chance to look at him really and we don’t know what his situation is or if he’s got other offers lined up. He is a player we were prepared to have a look at, but we have looked at five centre-backs,” Matthews explained. 

“It’s a position we are looking to boost, but we have a guy here who is South African and played in Cyprus.”

EX-CHIEFS DEFENDER CALLS ON TEAMMATES TO GO ABROAD

Remaining with Xulu, The South African previously reported that ‘Gxabashe’ as Xulu is known in football, said Morocco is better than the rest because they have many players in European leagues.

Contracted to Tovuz at the time back in June, the experienced Xulu who is linked with AmaZulu said importing more players overseas has added benefits.

“For us to improve and compete with the so-called big countries, we need to have at least 60% or 70% of the squad competing in big leagues so that it is much easier to compete,” he said.
