Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates could be set to lose out on a transfer target, as Al Hilal get ready to trigger his buyout clause!

Sudanese Giants Al Hilal have reportedly overtaken Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates in the race for a top target.

Chiefs and Pirates are known to be competing in the same market, with the name of Lanjesi Nkhoma the latest on the list.

The Malawian international was rumoured to have been the subject of a bid from Chiefs, in the close season. This came after Nkhoma was one of the standout players during the 2023 COSAFA Cup in South Africa. His coach at his current side Nyasa Big Bullets. At that time, it was thought that Amakhosi offered over R4 million for the player. The Soweto giants themselves, also denied any bid for the attacker.

In the end, it seems as if both Big Bullets and Chiefs were being honest, as Nkhoma remained in Malawi. On Tuesday, it was reported that Pirates had stolen a march for the signature of the 21-year-old. Sources claimed that the Buccaneers had started talks with Bullets in an effort to lure the player as early as January. That was deemed to be a possibility since the Malawian league is still in it’s break.

Now, in a turn of events, it’s claimed Al Hilal have stolen a march on both Chiefs and Pirates for Nkhoma’s signing. According to Soccer-Laduma, they have offered the buyout clause of $30 000 (R571 000) for the player.

“The interest from Al Hilal has been there for sometime. It was even before Kaizer Chiefs or Orlando Pirates. That means it was last year but because there was the war at that time then things didn’t look good. But now that their league is back on track then they have reignited that interest and they are in the forefront to sign him. It’s not a done deal yet but it looks better than Chiefs or Pirates. It could have been great for him to go to South Africa but that team in Sudan has money also to afford him,” said a source to the same publication.

It now remains to be seen if either Chiefs or Pirates will intervene and bid for Nkhoma to beat Al Hilal.
