Underfire Onana concedes mistakes are part of the game

Underfire Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana concedes that making mistakes is part of the football game as he has let in 27 goals.

Former Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana is underfire from Manchester United fans but he concedes that mistakes are part of the football game.

Onana will also miss this year’s AFCON tournament in Cote d’Ivoire as he opted to retire from the national side following a stand-off with coach Rigobert Song.

Speaking to Sky Sports Italia, Onana says his recent lacklustre displays and dip in form are just temporary in the English Premier League.

Looking at his statistics, the 27-year-old goalkeeper, Onana has conceded 27 goals out of 20 Premier League matches.

Onana joined the Red Devils for a staggering £43.8 million transfer from Inter Milan, but he is seriously struggling to adjust at Old Trafford as he replaced David De Gea.

In addition, Onana and English defender Harry Maguire’s frequent mistakes leading to goals have been the story of the Cameroonian gloveman’s season thus far, but he is adamant he will bounce back.

“Mistakes are part of learning, we know that people expect a lot from me and that’s why they criticise me so much,” Onana told Sky Italia

“But for me, it’s not a problem, I’m used to it. The same thing also happened at Inter.

“At the beginning they criticised me, but look how it ended…now it’s eternal love with the Nerazzurri.”

UNDERFIRE ONANA HIS FUTURE AMID ERRORS

The former Milan and Ajax goalkeeper, Onana adds that his future is on his hands and promises better things in 2024 despite only keeping six clean sheets.

“Manchester United is an even bigger club and the expectations are also greater, but I’m sure that by doing better and better, from now on, we will smile together as happened with Inter,” he adds.

“Few believed in us, but we showed what we were capable of.

“Now, at United, I have my future in my hands, we just have to get up and I’m sure we will.
