It must be nice to be able to say NO to such an offer! But in this case, the football superstar may have had good reason.

Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the most marketable athletes in the world – not just footballer – and currently boasts the most followed account on Instagram with nearly 258 million followers.

According to the Independent, the Juventus superstar received a proposal to become the face of Saudi Arabia tourism in an attempt to help the country become a more attractive holiday destination.

Saudi Arabia is in a tourism battle with the likes of nearby Qatar and the UAE to attract visitors to the country.

The offer tabled was believed to be in the region of €6 million (R110 million) annually, which would have seen Ronaldo pocket €16 350 (R300 000) per day!

However, Ronaldo is said to have turned down the offer due to the country’s questionable human rights records and links to the war in Yemen.
