Proteas middle order batter Heinrich Klaasen doesn’t believe the team needs to change their approach to the game.

They will meet England on Sunday in the series-deciding ODI in Leeds but the Proteas will have to rebound from being bowled out for 83 in a rain-hit second match.

Proteas don’t need change

Klaasen feels that the Proteas simply had an off-day and don’t need to make massive changes.

“I don’t think we need to change anything because our blueprint is good,” Klaasen said in a pre-match press conference.

“We bowled extremely well and even when we were put under pressure, the guys were able to fight back and took wickets after the big overs.

“I don’t think we need to change a lot. We just need to have the belief and the confidence because we’re playing good cricket.

“They bowled extremely well up front and they put us under pressure. They put us on the back foot.”

Klaasen says that the team aren’t trying to make up for past disappointments, but are focused on playing their best cricket.

“We weren’t there and we’re a completely new group of players,” Klaasen said.

“We try to play our brand of cricket and the blueprint we use now is different from the one that was used at that time.

“Whatever happens now is purely on us and we can’t bring in the past and hold on to it. It’s got nothing to do with us.

“We believe in our brand of cricket that we’re going to play and we’re going to stick to it for as long as possible.”

Credit to England

Klaasen says the Proteas are committed to taking the game to England.

“Credit must be given to England as they kept the pressure up and bowled very good lengths,” Klaasen said.

“We took our risk options and they didn’t come off, but that’s part of the game. We’ll go into Sunday in the same situation and the risks could come off.

“We’ve been training hard, the batters have confidence and it’s going to be a good game on Sunday.”
