Attacker Lesedi Kapinga exits Sundowns camp

The relations between midfielder Lesedi Kapinga and Mamelodi Sundowns have come to an end as the club did not extend his contract.

After struggling for regular game time at Chloorkop, attacker Lesedi Kapinga exits Mamelodi Sundowns camp ahead of the new season.

His agent, Mushe Mudau has confirmed that Kapinga was released by the reigning DStv Premiership champions, Sundowns last week.

Kapinga failed to cement his place in the star-studded Sundowns squad and the club opted against exercising the option on his contract.

ATTACKER KAPINGA EXITS SUNDOWNS

The former Black Leopards attacking midfielder, Kapinga saw his three-year contract coming to an end on June 30 and Mudau said the club was not keen to retain his client.

As per media reports prior to his release, his future was a subject of speculation and Kapinga is now free to join a club of his choice.

Mudau of Mushe Sports Agency confirmed that Masandawana have decided not to exercise an option on Kapinga’s contract.

“Kapinga’s relationship with Sundowns finished on 30 June, Sundowns didn’t exercise the option,” Mudau confirmed to FARPost.

Having arrived at Chloorkop from Leopards back in 2020 on a three-year deal and an option to extend for a further two years, Kapinga’s deal came to an end last week.

In his three-year spell with last season’s CAF Champions League semi-finalists, Kapinga made 39 appearances, chipped in with seven assists, and netted four times across all competitions.

KAPINGA FOLLOWS DOMINGO AND JALI

Kapinga’s exit comes after the likes of fellow midfielders such as Haashim Domingo and Andile Jali who have since parted ways with the club.

While Domingo has since been snapped up by Moroccan giants, Raja Casablanca, Jali is yet to find a new club but he continues to keep his fans guessing on social media.

Despite keeping his next destination a secret, local media reports indicate Mhlekazi may be on his way to either Orlando Pirates or two KwaZulu-Natal outfits AmaZulu FC and Royal AM.

At the same time, The South African reported that Sundowns will likely release defender Lyle Lakay and former Cape Town City attacker Surprise Ralani.

Lakay was loaned out to the Citizens last season while the Kimberley-born Ralani failed to impress as he struggled for regular game time in the previous term.
