Family friends and colleagues of Deputy Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and People with Disabilities, Professor Hlengiwe Mkhize, will bid her farewell on Saturday, 25 September 2021, as she is to be buried.
Mkhize died at a Johannesburg hospital at the age of 69.
President Cyril Ramaphosa granted her an official funeral
Hlengiwe Mkhize, who was also an African National Congress (ANC) NEC member was remembered in a memorial service attended by fellow colleagues in government and the ruling party, earlier this week.
ANC treasurer-general Paul Mashatile was amongst mourners at the service and hailed Mkhize for being a dedicated servant who executed her duties to the best of her ability.
“We will always remember her as a servant of the people. Death has robbed us of a cadre that displayed some of the finest qualities required by our movement. We will always remember her as a humble and dependent servant of our people. She was a person of principle and an intellectual of note. We will never forget the many years she worked tirelessly. In her, people with disabilities found a valuable ally,” Mashatile said.
