In an interview in July, Derek Watts had expressed that though he was fighting his battle with cancer he was maintaining UNWAVERING optimism. Based on reports, he maintained this spirit until he passed away Tuesday Morning.

Renowned TV anchor of Carte Blanche, Derek Watts, passed away on Tuesday morning after his battle with cancer. Last month, he candidly shared his cancer journey and announced his decision not to return to the show.

In the interview, Derek Watts expressed that his 35-year run with the show has come to an end. Despite this, he maintained his characteristic, unwavering optimism.

Watts emphasised, “From my first day with cancer, I’ve stayed optimistic because that’s who I am. That hasn’t changed,” reported 702.

In the interview, Derek Watts had revealed that he and his family maintained positivity amid diagnosis. Facing a cancer that had spread to his lungs, Derek Watts and his family maintained a positive outlook.

COLLEAGUES DEFINE WATTS AS KIND

John Webb, the show’s executive producer, expressed sorrow over our colleague Derek’s passing. Derek was integral to Carte Blanche’s identity, and his professionalism and kindness defined him.

M-Net extended condolences, highlighting Derek’s dedication to journalism despite challenges.

“A gentle giant has left us. Rest In Peace Derek Watts. Thank you for the way you led your life and your incredible journalism. Thank you for being brave and kind. And thank you for always believing that things should be better. You blessed us all,” said Karyn Maughan.

“So sad to hear my old mate Derek Watts has passed. An extremely nice guy with a wonderful family. I visited him a few weeks ago and we shot the breeze about old times. A thoroughly decent man,” said John Robbie.
