Two minors raped on the way back from school, investigations ongoing

Two girls, aged eight and nine, were raped while walking home from school, SAPS in Limpopo say they are investigating the matter.

A manhunt has been launched for two men who are accused of raping two girls aged eight and nine at Gogobole village. The SAPS’ Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) in Tshilwavhusiku, Limpopo.

Two men in work suits are accused of the crime

Spokesperson for the South African Police Service in Limpopo Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said the two girls fell victim to the crime on Thursday, 9 June at around 16:00. The girls were reportedly walking home from school.

Mojapelo said the men were wearing blue work suits and dragged the girls into a nearby bush. The children informed the elders about the rape when they arrived home.

“The children were reportedly walking from school when they met two unknown men wearing blue work suits. The suspects then grabbed and forcefully dragged them into the nearby bushes next to Chumbrys Farm where they both raped them. They then fled the scene. The traumatised children informed the elders when they arrived at home,”

said Mojapelo.

Two cases of rape have been opened at the SAPS

Brigadier Mojapelo explained that the matter was reported to the SAPS where two counts of rape were opened, reports IOL.

“The matter was then reported to the local police. A case of two counts of rape was opened and the FCS immediately took over the investigations,”

Mojapelo said.

Man who raped woman, 72, and killed brother hands himself over to SAPS

It was previously reported that a 30-year-old man has handed himself over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) for the rape of a Pietermaritzburg pensioner and the murder of her brother. The SAPS said the incident occurred on Bridge Road in Prestbury at 16:00 on Sunday, 5 June.

It’s been reported that the siblings were held hostage by the suspect. SAPS Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala said the 64-year-old man was stabbed in the neck, chest and under the left arm. His 72-year-old sister was repeatedly raped before the suspect fled the scene.

This comes after the crime stats were released where Minister Bheki Cele revealed there had been an increase of 1 666 in the number of sexual offences reported to the South African Police Service (SAPS) as compared to last year.
