Rest in Peace ‘Spinach’: Kaizer Chiefs pay tribute to Zahara

According to a post on her official Instagram account, Zahara was surrounded by her family and loved ones when she died.

Kaizer Chiefs have paid tribute to award-winning South African singer Zahara.

The 36-year-old,whose real name Bulelwa Mkutukana, passed away on Monday. She was reportedly admitted to hospital last month due to liver complications.

On Wednesday, Chiefs paid their tribute on X.

“Heartfelt condolences to the Mkutukana family for the loss of their daughter and our beloved singer, Bulelwa Mkutukana, better known as Zahara. Thank you for allowing her to share her massive talent and love for music with the world. Her powerful voice and guitar will echo forever. Rest in Peace Spinach,” said Chiefs.

According to a post on her official Instagram account, she was surrounded by her family and loved ones when she died.

“It is with heavy hearts and deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, sister, and friend, Zahara,” read the statement

“She was a pure light, and an even purer heart, in this world. A beacon of hope, a gift, and a blessing to us and countless people around the world,” the statement said.

In a statement on 27 November, the family confirmed that the singer had been admitted to hospital.

“Zahara has been admitted to the hospital for a week following complaints about physical pains. The doctors are working diligently and we await further updates from them.”

“In the meantime, we are asking for privacy on this matter; and your continued prayers for the speedy recovery of our beloved Zahara,” the family said then.

The singer will be buried in the Eastern Cape on 23 December.
