Kaizer Chiefs missed out on the opportunity to sign former Yanga SC coach Nasreddine Nabi and that has caught up with them

The Tunisian tactician was rumoured to join Amakhosi last year before the club hired Molefi Ntseki. However, the move never happened, and the Soweto Giants brought in the former Bafana Bafana coach.

Nabi left Yanga SC, hoping to finalise his move to Chiefs, but the talks didn’t go as planned. Instead, the Glamour Boys eventually gave the job to Ntseki who only survived less than 15 games. Nabi has now explained why the deal with Kaizer Chiefs didn’t work out.

“I wanted [Chiefs] to give me a chance of coming with at least two members of my technical team who will help me,” Nabi said as quoted by Sports Arena.

“However, they told me they have individuals with running contracts, and firing them will be expensive.

Nabi’s move to Kaizer Chiefs failed and here’s why

“It became a challenge for me to agree, I realized they cannot help me and I decided to leave them alone.”

Nabi was eager to join the Soweto Giants but the club could not make a sacrifice.

Chiefs signed Arthur Zwane on a three-year deal at the beginning of the 2022/23 season. Although he was released from his duties as head coach, he still served as Ntseki’s assistant. Ntseki was fired after just four months, with Zwane demoted to the development side.

Amakhosi failed to capture Nabi in last year

Nabi implies Kaizer Chiefs didn’t want to fire Zwane and Dillion Sheppard to allow him to bring his technical team. The Soweto giants may have needed to make an ultimate sacrifice and dig deep into their pockets but chose principle and loyalty.

Nabi was seen as the right coach to turn Kaizer Chiefs’ fortunes around but both parties failed to reach an agreement. The Tunisian coach is currently with FAR Rabat, having joined them late last year.

Amakhosi are still in a hunt for a new coach for the next season.
