A police officer has allegedly shot his girlfriend, suspected lover and later turned the gun on himself at Seshego Zone 3 in Limpopo on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old police Constable attached to Roedtan police station allegedly went to a rental apartment and reportedly found a woman believed to be his girlfriend in the company of another man.

POLICE OFFICER SHOOTS TWO AND COMMITS SUICIDE

The Constable reportedly confronted his girlfriend and her suspected lover and shot them dead before turning the gun on himself.

According to police, all three persons were certified dead on the scene. The Police officer’s service pistol was found on the scene.

Limpopo Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe said it is not clear at this stage what prompted the incident but domestic related challenges cannot be ruled out.

SAPS MEMBERS URGED SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP

Hadebe also urged Police members to seek professional assistance when faced with relationship challenges.

“Our members are urged to make use of available internal helping professionals whose responsibility is to look after the employees health and wellness issues and desist from resorting to extreme violence when dealing with challenges,” Hadebe said.

The Police have reportedly opened cases of two counts of murder and one count of inquest. Investigations are continuing.

COP MISTAKENLY SHOOTS SON

In a separate incident the Independent Police Directorate (IPID) is reportedly investigating a case of murder after a Durban cop allegedly shot his 10-year-old son. The incident happened on Sunday, 19 June after the police officer mistakenly took his son for an intruder.

It is understood the officer mistook his son for an intruder in their yard when he opened fire. After realising that it was his son that was shot, neighbours rushed them to hospital for medical attention.

The 10-year-old son who sustained bullet wounds to his chest and foot was reportedly rushed to hospital following the incident but sadly he succumbed to his injuries.
