A 26-year-old cable thief from Northern Cape was caught and arrested with suspected stolen copper on Thursday.
Police spokesperson Captain Mosimaneotsile Letsapa said the man was arrested on Thursday, 24 February 2022, at about 17:45.
“A 26-year-old man was arrested by Constables Vusimuzi Booysen and Keaobaka Modise both stationed at Deben SAPS on Thursday, 24 February 2022 at about 17:45 for possession of suspected stolen copper cable,” Letsapa said.
The arrest comes after police received a tip-off from a community member of a man allegedly burning something in the veld in Deben.
“The members responded swiftly, and upon their investigation, the man was found burning copper cables and was arrested.”
The man is expected to appear in the Kathu Magistrates Court soon on a charge of possession of the suspected stolen property.

Meanwhile, last week, two men were nabbed by the Hawks for the illegal possession of a firearm and an explosive.
According to Hawks spokesperson Captain Tebogo Thebe, the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team and Kimberley TRT and Explosive unit arrested two suspects, aged 48 and 26, on Friday, 18 February 2022.
“The team received information regarding a suspect who was in possession of a firearm and a hand grenade.”
“A search and seizure operation was conducted at an identified property in Galeshewe, Kimberley,” Thebe said.
The property was searched, and the team recovered one Norinco 9mm pistol, with 21 9mm live rounds, and one South African Police issued stun grenade.
