Man in flip flops dies after running across N2 – police investigate culpable homicide

A delivery vehicle driver was reportedly unable to avoid the deceased when he ran across the N2 highway on Wednesday morning, said police.

An unknown man died after being struck by a delivery vehicle in the Eastern Cape on Wednesday morning, 4 May. The deceased allegedly ran across the N2 highway.

POLICE SEEK FAMILY OF DECEASED

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said the incident took place at approximately 9:25 on the N2 highway near the Gelvandale off-ramp in the direction of Deal Party.

According to the report, the driver of a Volkswagen LDV was unable to avoid the man after he darted across the road.

“The pedestrian died on the scene. He is unknown at this stage and was wearing ‘flip flop’ sandals with a grey and white tracksuit pants and a maroon coloured tracksuit top,” said Janse van Rensburg.

A culpable homicide investigation is being carried out by the Mount Road police station.
