Joburg Water has announced an emergency shutdown which will affect a number of suburbs in the City of Gold.

Joburg Water has announced an emergency shutdown which will affect a number of suburbs in the West Rand, Johannesburg.

JOBURG WATER EXPLAINS THE REASON FOR THE SHUTDOWN

In a statement, Joburg Water indicated that water has been isolated and excavations are underway to expose the damaged 600m main on Fredenharry Street in Little Falls, Roodepoort.

“The estimated completion time is 06:00 on 2 August.”

WHERE TANKS CAN BE FOUND IN AFFECTED AREAS

Joburg Water said alternative supply is being provided through stationary tanks at the following sites:

  1. Corner Witwatersrand and Montrose Avenue at the Little Falls Nature Reserve (hikers’ entrance)
  2. Strubens Valley Library
  3. Engen garage at Cascades Shopping Centre
  4. Little Genius Nursery School, Augrabies Avenue
  5. Back entrance of Trinityhouse School on Sabie Street
  6. Sasol garage and KFC at Peter Road in Ruimsig

BRYANSTON RESCHEDULED DUE TO BURST PIPE

Meanwhile, Joburg Water also updated on the shutdown in the Bryanston area saying that it has been rescheduled to attend to a major burst on William Nicol Drive.

“Water has been restored to affected areas. Customers will be advised of the new dates and times,” the entity said.

Affected areas include Bryanston and extension, Fourways, Magaliesig, Witkoppen, Maroeladal, Craigavon, Dainfern, Lonehill, Paulshof, Pineslopes, Magaliesig view and Noscot.

Meanwhile, Some areas in Johannesburg will be kicking off the month of August with dry taps after Joburg Water announced a planned shutdown. On Tuesday, 1 August 2023, the following areas will be affected by the water shutdown from 08:00 to 18:00: Witkoppen, Craigavon and parts of Kengies Affected streets include: Campbell Road, Cedar Road, Uranium Street, Granite Road, Bushwillow Avenue, Willow Avenue, Elm Avenue, Poplar Place, Jacaranda Avenue, Pine Avenue, Frederick, and Lombardy Road.

The entity said the reason for the interruption is due to a tie-in from existing 160mm AC pipe to 110m UPVC pipe (PRV1 and 2). On 7 August the following areas will experience water shutdown from 06:00 to 18:00: Lenasia, Lenasia South, Anchorville, Lehae, Zakariyya Park, Vlakfontein, Finetown, Ennerdale South and extension
