The South African Police Service made a breakthrough in its investigation last month into what it calls a “Facebook serial rapist”. This week, the 35-year-old arrested for allegedly using Facebook to lure and then rape at least 15 women, decided to try and skip bail.

SAPS says that its North West Provincial Investigation Psychology Section and Sexual Offences investigators worked together to catch the alleged serial rapist.

According to police, the man contacted women via Facebook between the ages of 19-34. He then offered them work in Klipgat, Loate, Soshanguve and Rietgat.

“He would then invite them for an interview and make an appointment for them to meet in person. During their first appointment, the victims were taken to secluded bushy areas, where they were overpowered, threatened with a knife/firearm, robbed of personal belongings and ultimately raped. The suspect was traced and arrested on Tuesday, 19 October 2021 at a petrol station in Soshanguve.”
