THE EFFECTS OF OCCUPYING LAND UNLAWFULLLY

“If you erect structures on land unlawfully they will be demolished,” the City warned.

“People who facilitate land invasion often also do so on land that cannot be developed or is not habitable and then demand services which the city won’t be able to provide. In worst cases some communities have invaded active floodplains or dry river beds which flood during heavy rainfall creating significant personal risk,” the City of Tshwane further cautioned.

“Once more, please do not allow anyone to sell you land unless it is through a lawful and legal process. If you erect structures on land unlawfully they will be demolished,” the City reiterated.

WHAT THE COMMUNITY THINKS ABOUT THE CRISIS

The people of Tshwane had their say on this matter.

Herman Mosima said: “When the police leave, they erect new structures, even tents. The EFF needs your support in elections so that these oppressive laws are removed with immediate effect”.

Modibedi Tman Manala said: “Develop those places and stop demolishing, our people are trying. We cannot wait for RDP forever. Give them electricity they will pay and stop izinyoka, not everyone is happy about illegal connections some want to pay, you are failing them.”

Isco MO said: “Not everyone will invade the land without a reason, people need houses and when they go legit to get a stand the prices are ridiculous with a small piece of land”.

Karel Cloete said: “What about hijacked places in Sunninghill and Rossetenville . Government oppressing own citizens”.
