Are you the owner of these 26 goats?

Members of the South African Police Service have impounded 26 goats in Kameelriver B in Mpumalanga and are calling on their owner to come forward.

Police were busy with routine patrols on Sunday, 15 January 2023, when they came across the goats.

Arrive Alive reports that none of the goats were marked to identity the owner.

According to Arrive Alive, police spotted a white Toyota Quantum with a trailer fully loaded with goats.

Arrive Alive reported that the driver told the police he was transporting the goats to an auction.

The driver said the goats were from four different owners who hired him to take it to be auctioned before they got stolen.

“According to the driver, the owners opted to sell their stock out of fear that it might get stolen by thieves who often steal goats in their area.”

However, the driver could not provide proof of ownership, and police opened an inquiry docket for investigation, Arrive Alive reported.

The police have now called on the owner or owners of the goats to come forward, or they would forfeit it to the state.

Mpumalanga police commissioner Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, said the police regard stock theft as a serious crime.

“More effort is being made to resolve this issue hence the action taken by the members.”

Manamela advised farmers to brand mark their stock as it will be easy to identify once it is recovered.

Police call on community members who might have lost their goats to come and identify their stock at the Mmametlhake police station.

They can also call the branch commander of the Siyabuswa Stock Theft Unit, Lieutenant Colonel Freddy Sepogoane, on 079 499 2015.
