Tweeps have slammed former Ukhozi FM presenter, Sibusiso ‘Sbu’ Buthelezi’ for allegedly using the radio station to scam listeners into investing in his company, Abombuso Investment.

Sbu Buthelezi who was fired by the radio station on 29 June 2022 was featured on eNCA’s investigative current affairs show Checkpoint which aired on Wednesday night.

The former Indumiso presenter topped social media trends lists following the interview and many accused him of being arrogant and refusing to take accountability for the alleged scam. which he says is a poultry business and not an investment company.

A victim who was retrenched from SAA in 2020 said he invested R40 000 of his provident fund and received only R6000 of his promised returns. According to a contract he had signed with Abombuso, he was to receive 5X more of his initial investment after a couple of months.

When asked why he invested in a business he never saw with his own eyes, the father of two said he trusted Buthelezi because he was working for Ukhozi FM and was regarded as a man of God.

Vusi Mbatha, another victim who invested R200 000 of his provident fund to Buthelezi’s business and claimed he has not received a single cent of returns he was promised.

Mbatha said they met with Buthelezi in Randburg in December and promised that they will get their returns in January 2022.

“We didn’t get a cent in January. In February he sent us SMSs saying we will get our returns between the 7th and 15th of every month but that did not happen.”

Buthelezi reportedly deposited R16 500 and that was the last payment that Mbatha has received to date.

During his interview Buthelezi said things started to go south in Abombuso Investment in 2020 due to an outbreak of avian flu and denied that he never informed investors of the situation in his Tuesday advertising slot on Ukhozi FM. He refused to reveal how many people had invested in Abombuso and also refused to say when people will be getting their money back.

Tweeps felt people use their status and being men of God to lure desperate people into their get rich quick schemes.

“This will go down as one of the nastiest episodes of Checkpoint. This guy (Sbu Buthelezi) is so arrogant and now he is refusing to take accountability. He has the gall to try and take on the interviewer. A typical thief in an expensive suit.” @qhasi2 tweeted.

“Swindling the gullible out of money is what men of God do best. Bushiri, Mbhoro, Pastor Chris etc. all of them are professional swindlers. Sbu Buthelezi is a true man of God.” @CharlieLanga said.

“Amazing how people just fall for scams just because the person is from the radio and coming as a man of God. Sbu Buthelezi clearly has no answers to this investment scheme he was running.” @FsTebza tweeted too.
