Mamelodi Sundowns are keen to tie goalkeeper and Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams down to a brand-new contract.

WILLIAMS SET FOR LONG-TERM DEAL

According to Soccer-Laduma, Masandawana is close to tying 32-year-old goalkeeper Ronwen Williams down to a new deal at the club. Williams was a cornerstone of Bafana Bafana’s run to the Afcon 2023 semi-finals. He’s transferred that form to the club stage, keeping eight clean sheets in 10 CAF Champions League appearances and 12 shutouts in 17 DStv Prem appearances. Williams infamously made four saves in a record-breaking penalty shoot-out to steer South Africa to the AFCON semi-finals at the expense of Cape Verde. Amazingly, he started his career as a striker!

“It’s been almost a done deal because the two parties have agreed and Ronwen (Williams) is happy to be at Sundowns for the long term.” said the source.

Sundowns continue to build

Argentinian playmaker Matias Esquivel, former Orlando Pirates star Thembinkosi Lorch and ex-Borussia Dortmund winger Tashreeq Matthews have all bolstered the Brazilians’ ranks. Rulani Mokwena’s side are coasting to glory in the DStv Premiership, but have work to do in their quest to claim continental flory in the CAF Champions League. Sundowns trail ES Tunis 1-0 on aggregate heading into their crunch semi-final second leg on Friday 26 April. Kickoff is at 20:00.

Former Sundowns man Dolly earns R1.5 Million a month at Chiefs

DOLLY IS AMAKHOSI’S TOP EARNER

You’d think Blom’s earnings would be far greater than anybody at Naturena, but you’d be wrong. As of 2024, Keagan Dolly’s basic monthly salary at Chiefs is R1.4 million, or R16.8 million annually. That means he’s earning far more than Hlongwane, the MLS’s best South African earner. What is the moral of the story? Become the top earner at one of the Big 3 clubs in South Africa and you won’t need to go anywhere else for a long while.
