BREAKING: Another two arrested in the Thabo Bester escape case

Another two former employees who were dismissed by G4S were arrested in connection to the Thabo Bester escape case on Monday, 01 May 2023, at their place of residence in Bloemfontein.

More arrests in the Thabo Bester case

The pair will appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 03 May 2023.

They will appear on a charge of assisting an inmate to escape from lawful custody and defeating the ends of justice.

The team investigating this case have so far arrested eight suspects and cannot rule out the possibility of effecting more arrests.

Ex G4S guards in the crossfire

In April, the investigating team made about eight more arrests in the Thabo Bester case, with ex G4S prison guards caught in the crossfire.

A 51-year-old G4S employee who allegedly helped convicted serial rapist and murderer Thabo Bester escape from prison is due in court on Thursday, 20 April.

He was arrested at the Mangaung Correctional Centre (MCC), which is where Bester escaped from last year, on Tuesday.

The 51-year-old suspect is also facing charges of assisting an inmate to escape from lawful custody and defeating the ends of justice.

As previously reported, two other former employees are currently in custody for their role in the escape.

Senohe Matsoara, a former night supervisor at the MCC, was allegedly instrumental in orchestrating the escape from prison, while former Integritron Integrated Solutions technician Teboho Lipholo allegedly manipulated the CCTV cameras on the night.

Bester’s lover, disgraced celebrity doctor Dr Nandipha Magudumana is also in custody. Sbe, Matsoara and Lipholo are expected to apply for bail on 3 May.
