‘Shame won’t feed me’: Humbled SA graduate takes job as cashier

‘I am excited about this job because, at the end of the day, my efforts of applying for work didn’t go in vain,’ says the young graduate.

A young woman has made the very difficult decision to take one of the only jobs available to her shortly after graduating. Speaking during a recent interview, the University of Johannesburg graduate explained that she took the job as a cashier because she would rather be employed and working then sit at home and wait for a position to open up in her field.

She is one of many South African graduates who are in the struggle to find employment despite having a qualification.

Young graduate takes cashier job

Swallowing your pride is not easy.

This is why Johannesburg resident, Maserame Gloria Modupe  is a shining example of where swallowing pride can take you.

The 25-year-old who recently graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Strategic Communication, shared with Briefly News how she decided to take a job as a cashier at Clicks because she didn’t want to wait to find a job in her field.

Speaking to the publication, she explained that she is excited to be working only two months after graduating.

“I am extremely excited about this job because, at the end of the day, my efforts of applying for work didn’t go in vain.”

She shared that she started her first day earlier this month and is currently training but couldn’t be more grateful.

“Bagging a job so soon after graduating is only God’s grace. I am truly humbled, grateful, and very excited about this role. My family is very proud of me.”

Many of them slammed the government for not making better opportunities for graduates.
