Canada’s Express Entry immigration system is the country’s flagship system for those who want to move to Canada.

Canada to welcome nearly 1,000

Canada recently celebrated their 100th Express Entry Draw which is exciting news for those looking to immigrate to Canada.

Over 62,000 people have already immigrated to Canada this year alone using this system. Those who do not have family or a job offer in Canada can use this system. Based on the Canadian government’s own reports, Canada will welcome 310,000 new Permanent Residents in 2018, 330,000 in 2019 and 340,000 in 2020.

What is the Express Entry System?

The Express Entry system is designed to provide individuals with full Canadian Permanent Residency within as little as six months of applying. In order to qualify you need to have at least one year of post-secondary education, at least one year of full-time paid work experience and be fluent in French or English.

Canada does not have an “in-demand” occupation list, instead, they are looking for those who have work experience in management positions, professional occupations that typically require a university degree, technical jobs and skilled trades.

All applicants who apply through the Express Entry system are then assigned a score based on a variety of factors including age, education, work experience and language proficiency. This applicant’s score is then used to rank the applicant against all of the other applicants wanting to move to Canada.

An application will include the applicant’s spouse and dependent children, if applicable. The Canadian Government then selects the top-ranking candidates bimonthly. Those who are successful will then be considered for Canadian Permanent Residency.

Why move to Canada?

While other countries are making it harder to immigrate to, Canada continues to welcome new immigrants. Though Canada may not be the first country that people think about when exploring the option of moving abroad, the country offers a wide variety of benefits such as:

  • A national unemployment rate of under 6%
  • One of the top educational systems in the world (government funded)
  • Government funded health system
  • It is rated as one of the safest countries in the world to live in
  • Immediate Permanent Residency on arrival
  • The ability to sponsor your parents for Permanent Residency
  • The ability to apply for Citizenship within three years

Are there other immigration options?

For those who either cannot apply under the Express Entry system, or their score is too low to be selected, Canada offers other immigration options such as:

  • Family sponsorship for those married to a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Family Sponsorship for dependent children of a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Entrepreneur programs for individuals looking to open a business in Canada who have previous business ownership/management experience
  • Farming programs for experienced farmers looking to purchase a farm in Canada
  • Investment programs for those who can make a financial investment of $ 1,200,000
  • Provincial programs for those individuals whose skills are in high demand in a specific Province
  • Work permits or Provincial programs for those with a job offer from a Canadian employer
  • Work permits for those working for an international company with offices in Canada (or are looking to open offices in Canada)
  • Study permits for those who have been accepted into a recognized Canadian educational institution
