A few years ago, a South African couple went viral after their KFC proposal was shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). While Tweeps initially mocked the man over the proposal, many big companies started offering to donate stuff toward their wedding. It would appear the couple have become trendsetters who inspired a lot of other couples to go for unique proposals. This week a man went down on one knee inside a Pick n Pay.
Zesta Venter said yes to her man Kobus Swart who shared how the grocery store proposal was part of his plan to keep the element of surprise in their engagement.

While most couples love being over the top when it comes to engagement proposals not everyone can afford to go all out with candles, roses and an expensive dinner.
Over the years, fast food restaurants have become a popular location for proposals. Especially after the KFC couple went viral and received so many free goodies.
Another couple has gone viral after the man decided to ask the love of his life to marry him in a Caledon, Western Cape Pick n Pay.

Speaking about the proposal shortly afterwards, Kobus explained how he roped the Pick n Pay manager into his plans because he wanted it to be unique and different.
“Zesta is sharp, she’d know the engagement was happening as soon as you told her to dress up nicely, so we plotted a surprise inside Pick n Pay,” he explained.
“No one has ever done it before, so it was a unique way to propose, and you automatically have a whole crowd of people to cheer and congratulate you.”

According to IOL, Zesta’s mom Susan Pero was behind the idea.
“An engagement is not about showing off and being fancy, it is about the commitment and the love they have for each other,” she believes. “Management was very willing to help out when we told them about our idea.”
